Description

  • When Wolves Grow Old by Jamal Naji... Novelist Jamal Naji presents a novel whose threads are woven from real life, entitled "When Wolves Grow Old", reflecting the details of the lives of its heroes, multiple images of human structures produced by a rigid social-religious structure, expressing mental structures that are still bound by a pre-prepared culture despite the development that has accompanied human life, but the intellectual, social and religious mentality is still what shapes the lives of these individuals and determines their path. Through the experience of the novel's heroine, who marries more than once and also divorces, she says: "Azmi Al-Wajih humiliated me three times, the first time in his father's house, when he fell in love with me and married me. The second time he caught me in the smoke room in Sheikh Abdul Hamid Al-Ganzeer's house. As for the third, thirteen years later; when I reached the age of thirty-eight."
  • Thus, with his interesting literary style, the writer "Jamal Naji" reflects the experience of a group of people in that closed society, as he follows the movements of the characters of his novel, their emotions and dialogues, interweaving them in a dramatic-human fabric that depicts the state of the human ego that is tired of the monotony of life, so it dreams of a better day. Can the heroine of the novel get out of this closed circle like many women? And is the development of social and technological life different from what is in people's minds and intellects? Is civilization measured by thought or technology?
  • Many questions are answered in this realistic novel in its presentation and content that expresses the reality of life. He says: "The situation has changed a lot now, as women have rushed to wear galabiyas, handkerchiefs and veils, and bearded young men have spread who preach in houses of mourning and gatherings, and female preachers have spread in homes and male preachers in mosques, associations, centers and outside them. Astonishment has spread among leftists, nationalists and liberals, along with the governments that have succeeded one another in the Cabinet building on the fourth floor."
  • This novel contains many details and many stations, through which the writer sheds light on social classes and strata of successive stages, expressing the culture of that society in which the religious, the social, the political, and the economic intertwine, resulting in a new vision of that complex and intertwined structure
