Description
- The story of “The Ghoul” talks about how we look at people and creatures who are different from us and how we can build our fears and make prejudices on false assumptions, behind the events of the story about a village where life has become paralyzed due to fear of the ghoul who lives on top of the mountain overlooking it.
- No one has seen this ghoul and he has never harmed anyone, but people are terrified of him, and they walk on their tiptoes and whisper so as not to disturb the serenity of the terrifying ghoul.
- Hassan is a boy who is tired of this fear and decides to investigate the ghoul himself and free the villagers from the fear that has taken over their lives. A sudden change occurs in the story when Hassan finally meets the ghoul and discovers that the ghoul is afraid of people as they are afraid of him and for the same reasons, they do not look like him. Here lies the funny paradox that will give children the opportunity to think about the ghoul in a way different from our popular heritage.
- Parents and teachers can use the story to discuss fear in children, its causes and the difference between reality and imagination.
